American Idol judges talk about the new season

Tonight is the premiere of the 11th season of American Idol and judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson are talking about the new season.

This time around, American Idol is forced to seperate themselves amongst new competition like NBC's The Voice and FOX's The X-Factor. "It's an intimate setting because its just the three of us in a room, different from the other shows - not in front of an audience or anything. They come in, usually they are super nervous. It's like when you have a big audience there it becomes a bit disconnected and you don't have to think about it. When it's just the three of us looking right at them, and they are standing five feet away from us, it's nerve wrecking - for them and us, says Lopez who is going on her second season.

Steven agrees, "You own the moment and you are in it." Asked what they are looking for this year, Tyler continues, "Someone who is so confident. They don't care where they stand or what they do and you see that. You are attracted to that right away. That calmness that they are so sure of themselves is the one that you look at, plus they got a voice."
