Country singer Randy Thomspon has a new album, Collected out January 24th but in anticipation for the new CD, we caught up with him to ask him some of our random questions.

If you had to write a journal entry about your New Years Eve - New Years Day, what would it say?  I spent New Years Eve and New Years Day at a beach house in the outer banks of North Carolina. We had a group of about 20 good friends plus about 9 kids under the age of 10. It was around 70 degrees on the 31st so we all took our 4 wheel drive trucks and 2 four wheelers 10 miles up the beach past where the road ends on Corolla. It was a perfect day. We all sat on the beach, let the kids play in the sand and took turns tearing around the dunes on the 4 wheelers. We saw a lot of wild horses and very few other people. We back to the beach house for dinner. We did a fake count down for the kids at around 9:30, sent them to bed then partied until 3 AM. Perfect way to bring in the New Year.

Any NYs resolutions? My NY resolutions this year are to be a better person and learn to play my new Mandolin.

What are you looking forward to in 2012?  This year I have a lot to look forward to. My new CD Collected will be released on Jan. 24th. I've got lots of great shows lined up. I'll be touring Europe. I'm really looking forward to returning to Norway for the first time in many years. My son Ryan is turning 4 in April. That's hard to believe. It seems like he was just born.

What are 5 things you would need to survive on a deserted island? Funny question because I WAS stranded on a deserted island last summer for about 12 hours. My wife Julie and I took a sea plane from Key West out to the island of Dry Tortuga for a day trip. It is way out in the middle  of the Gulf Of Mexico about 90 miles from main land Florida. It was supposed to be a five hour day trip on the beach. Nothing is out there at all, just an old deserted fort. When it was time to go we were told that the sea plane would not start and that we would need to either take the ferry that was coming by in an hour or wait for the rescue plane. As it turned out there was room on the ferry for all but one. I volunteered to stay behind thinking the rescue plane would be coming very soon. I watched the ferry get smaller and smaller as it pulled away from the dock and suddenly there was just me and the birds. I had no food, no shade and only one bottled water in the 100 plus degree heat. Well the rescue plane didn't come for another 6 hours. I had a lot of time to just sit and think about things. I actually kind of enjoyed the adventure as hungry, thirsty and sun burnt as I was.
Just to survive on a deserted island I would need:

1. Julie-My wife

2. My kids

3. Food & Water

4. My Guitar

5. Shelter

Where are you doing this interview? Describe the area around you. I'm at home now in beautiful Clifton, Virginia. Its drizzling rain and I'm thankful its not snowing. I'm leaving for Norway tonight and I hope Julie and Ryan don't have to deal with any when I'm gone. I have a long gravel driveway that's impossible to get up in the snow.

What made you laugh last? My 3 year old Ryan asked me why people get fat. I told him simple that "they eat too much food".A couple days later we are in the restroom at a local restaurant and I huge man walked in and Ryan said real loud right in front of him  "Hey dad, he ate too much food". Very embarrassing.
