'Real Steel' punches out 'Footloose' for the top spot
Footloose underperformed this weekend as Paramount was expecting at least a #1 in the mid twenties, but only garned at $16.1 million landing it at #2. Real Steel, last week's #1 retained its crown with a $16.3 million (ohhh! so close!), according to Exhibitor Relations. (Sidenote: Real Steel 2 has been green-lit for 2014 release).
Other newcomers this weekend included The Thing (#3) which may have scared just a few people, debuting with only $8.7 million, again underperforming what the studio wanted in the early teens at the very least. Another snooze-fest was The Big Year with Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson as it barely anyone saw it debuting at #9 with $3.2 million. What do you expect about a movie about bird watching? Seriously.
Did you see anything this weekend? What are you looking forward to seeing this year?
Final numbers will be released on Monday.
